What is inside 30th Celebration, and what it did to sealed prices

The 30th Celebration set landed on 16 September 2026, and the first wave sold out within minutes.

It is the first Pokemon set to release worldwide on the same day, and the English line-up runs past fourteen products across five waves through 4 December. If you only saw the launch headline, the release is not over. Late buyers will get more chances than the first-day rush suggested.

What is actually in the packs.

Five all-foil cards per pack, with a Classic Collection card in roughly 1 in 10 packs. The set is 161 cards plus a 30-card Classic Collection of stamped reprints. It debuts a new rarity, the Futuristic Rare, and the 30 numbered Pikachu cards are each illustrated by a different artist. Booster bundles hold six packs. Retailer listings describe a collector-focused set at $180 that included 29 booster packs plus a Classic Collection pack guaranteeing three reprint cards.

The pull rates are the story.

TCGplayer's authentication team opened 3,000 English packs. Illustration Rares came out at 1 in 5 packs, against 1 in 9 in Pitch Black. Special Illustration Rares landed at 1 in 21, against 1 in 80 in Pitch Black, the friendliest rate any modern set has posted for that rarity. The Futuristic Rare Mewtwo ex and Mew ex sit at 1 in 120.

Value concentrated into three cards.

The RGB Mew trio could not be pinned down even on 3,000 packs, which tells you they sit at gold tier or rarer; the digital client lists them around 1 in 10,000. Lowest English asks settled near $6,900 for the red, $5,499 for the blue and $3,997 for the green. Below them, Crystal Lugia sat around $255, the Classic Collection Charizard $185, and the Mew ex Special Illustration Rare $157.

That shape is deliberate.

Generous rates keep the ordinary chases affordable and cap the price of everything below the top three. It also makes the set a volume game for sealed buyers: the money is concentrated in the extremely rare end, not in the median pull. If you bought cases expecting a spread of expensive hits, the set was designed against that outcome.

Older sealed kept climbing while the anniversary launched.

Evolving Skies booster boxes moved into the $260 to $310 range from roughly $220 a year earlier, Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Boxes reached $160 to $200, and loose packs ran $12 to $18. The Sun and Moon era started moving too: Team Up boxes went from about $150 to $220 and up, Cosmic Eclipse pushed past $250, and even sets such as Unbroken Bonds and Unified Minds added 20 to 40 percent.

Current print is flat by comparison.

Most sealed Scarlet and Violet product still sitting in distribution trades at or near retail, because reprint supply keeps arriving. That is the split in this market: products that are out of print compound, and products still on the press tread water. Scarcity is doing the work, not nostalgia alone.

Singles had their own spike in the spring.

Mega Charizard X ex, 125/094 from Phantasmal Flames, added $146 in a single week in early February 2026 to reach roughly $642. That is the kind of move that pulls attention back to a set which had already been opened heavily, and it shows how quickly a single card can change a set's standing.

The wider record matters for confidence.

On 16 February 2026 the PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator sold through Goldin for $16,492,000, a record for any trading card, from a $5.2 million purchase in 2021. Whatever you think of the number, it set the reference price for the top of the hobby in the same year as the 30th anniversary, and it keeps outside money interested in sealed product.

What to plan for.

The numbered Pikachu cards and the RGB Mew trio are the long holds. Most of the rest of the set will be cheap within a year, so ripping it is a choice rather than an investment. Anniversary product keeps arriving in waves, which means buying the first wave at a premium is optional. And the next main set, Delta Reign with Mega Rayquaza ex, is dated for 6 November 2026 with prerelease events from 24 October, which will reset attention again.
